ABOUT NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE

Naturopathy is based on the understanding that each patient is unique, and an individual approach is needed to address the physical, environmental, lifestyle and emotional aspects of health. Looking at a full patient history alongside laboratory test results allows naturopathic doctors to find and address the unique root causes of symptoms using a variety of therapies.

A Holistic Approach to Wellness That Does Not Mask Symptoms

Whereas conventional medicine typically treats the symptoms of diagnosed, established disease using pharmaceutical therapies or surgery, a Naturopathic approach allows issues to be addressed earlier in their development and from a variety of angles. Our team treats all health concerns for all ages, helping to improve overall wellness and quality of life for those with mild to serious concerns. Your ND will work in collaboration with your MD where necessary to support your wellbeing and minimize side effects of surgery or medication used in conventional treatments.

Should You Visit a Naturopathic Doctor?

Nowadays, more people than ever are seeking out the support of a Naturopathic Doctor as recognition for the field of natural and preventive medicine increases. More research is emerging each month that supports the therapies we have always used, and interest in a more natural approach that puts the power in the hands of the patient is growing.

MEET DR. MARIE MATHESON

Dr. Marie is a Naturopathic doctor and co-founder of BioHeal Ottawa which opened in April, 2019. She graduated from the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in 2005 and for the past decade was the senior ND at a local wellness clinic. Opening the BioHeal Ottawa clinic is a professional dream come true.

Grounded in general practice skills, Dr. Marie thinks of herself as somewhat of a health detective for chronic illnesses, specifically when it comes to figuring out the underlying causes of chronic illness. Within this field, she is particularly well known for her expertise in treating Lyme Disease.

Her willingness to freely share clinical pearls of wisdom among colleagues has led to her being a sought-after speaker at conferences. This, along with her professional reputation, lead to her being asked to be a recent author of a chapter within the Connie Strasheim’s ground-breaking book, New Paradigms in Lyme Disease.

It’s hard to improve on the Naturopathic refrain, “fix the terrain”, but this is the mission at the heart of Dr. Marie’s practice. She meets all her patients with the heartiest smile and an open mind.

MEET DR. JESSE PIERCE

Dr. Jesse Pierce, ND, Bsc., is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor who graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2007, and has been in practice in Ottawa since 2008. Dr. Jesse has a general family practice and has a special interest in treating complex chronic illness. She strives to provide an approach to your healthcare that is focused on you! The goal is to provide you with the information, resources, and motivation you need to get you back on the road to health.

Dr. Jesse’s approach is based on helping you understand the cause of your condition. By removing the cause and allowing your body to heal, you will improve your overall vitality. Dr. Pierce has been able to help many people overcome their symptoms and many types of illnesses such as Lyme and co-infections, auto-immune issues, severe acne, insomnia, digestive disturbances, anxiety and depression.

In addition to using lab reports and clinical examination, Dr. Jesse further employs the use of an assessment technique known as Auricular Medicine. This is an assessment tool to determine blockages that are preventing the body from healing.

In her practice she uses drainage, herbs, homeopathy, acupuncture, nutrition and lifestyle counselling as tools to facilitate change and improvements in her patient’s lives. More recently, Dr. Jesse has incorporated “frequency specific microcurrent” treatments to help support optimal wellness (Learn about Frequency Specific Microcurrent here), as well as becoming a practitioner of the Elapromed system for naturopathic skin treatments (Learn about Elapromed here).

She is a member of both the Canadian association of Naturopathic Medicine and International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS).

MEET DR. FRANCES PIERANTONI

Dr. Frances Pierantoni, ND, became motivated to learn about alternative ways of healing in 2001 while being the caregiver of a cancer patient. Through her studies she found there’s an empowerment to understanding the body’s signals and in promoting a feeling of vitality and optimal wellness. Through practice and experience she has come to find that the body is like a puzzle and finding the root cause of illness is the key by studying factors such as diet, nutrition, organ system function, hormonal health, toxins and infection. Her special interest is in facilitating empowered lifestyle transformation by addressing her patient’s points of resistance then providing support with easy steps that bring profound and long-lasting changes in complex chronic cases.

Dr. Frances graduated from The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2013 and is a licensed practitioner with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO). She has also completed training in Reiki, Metabolic Balance, Quantum Touch Healing, Craniosacral Therapy, Personal Training, Group Fitness, Fitness and Health Promotion, Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture, Naturopathic Doula, and Bowen Therapy.

MEET DR. ANDREA WOLFE

Dr. Andrea Wolfe, ND is a compassionate and devoted Naturopathic Doctor whose passion for helping others heal from chronic illness stems from her own transformative journey. Before becoming a practitioner, Andrea was a patient herself at BioHeal Ottawa—struggling with complex chronic illness that deeply impacted her life. Through naturopathic medicine, she not only reclaimed her health but also discovered her life’s purpose: to guide others on their path to healing.

Her experience fuels her unwavering dedication at BioHeal Ottawa, where she is determined to support individuals facing chronic, multifactorial health conditions. Dr. Andrea knows firsthand how isolating and overwhelming it can be to navigate long-term illness, which is why she meets her patients with empathy, understanding, and a fierce commitment to uncovering the root causes of their symptoms.

Believing in the body’s innate ability to heal, Dr. Andrea takes a deeply individualized and holistic approach. She emphasizes the importance of a thorough health history—exploring physical, emotional, and environmental factors—to craft personalized treatment plans. She enjoys using modalities like nutrition, botanical medicine, acupuncture, homeopathy, lifestyle counseling, and more. She is also certified in Facial Rejuvenation and Anti-Aging Acupuncture.

As a new mom, she understands the importance of realistic and compassionate care. Whether you're at the beginning of your healing journey or further along, Dr. Andrea will meet you where you are with respect, encouragement, and clinical insight.

A graduate of the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine and a registered member of the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO), Dr. Andrea is passionate about empowering her patients to take an active role in their healing. She hopes her story serves as a reminder that recovery is possible—and that with the right support, you can regain your vitality and thrive.
